LinkedIn is still a big money making opportunity for experts in 2026.

Over the last 2 years LinkedIn has made some massive changes, most of which, in my book have made it more difficult for your average solopreneur business owner to succeed.

First we have seen organic reach with content progressively get more and more difficult, seemingly rewarding larger creators. This shift demoralised so many as their baseline views and engagement fell off a cliff.

Second, we have had the move of more and more features being moved into paid plans. Things like connecting limits, search restrictions and even the discontinuation of features on the profile, such as creator mode and custom link all getting the chop.

Third, the shifts in the algorithm have also made it harder to succeed with a diverse range of content topics. Now, it's easy to niche down and reach people with content than appeal broadly.

Forth, there is a lot more ai slop and nonsense in the DMs now too, more bad sales outreach, more generic content and so it's causing buyers to be more cautious about how they use the platform.

Despite all of those changes, I still think if you are an expert, coach, adviser or consultant, there is ample opportunity. Where else can you reach thousands of potential buyers for free on a daily basis?

But those changes force you to adapt how you leverage the platform.

So, here are the top ways to adapt as an expert:

Own a topic and an audience: It's very difficult to cut through trying to share diverse topics and appeal to wider audiences - pick one topic and one audience and become the go-to for them on their problems and goals within that topics.

Specificity now matters: As LinkedIn fights back against the people throwing out low quality content and outreach - getting specific really matters - facts, figures, opinions, beliefs, POVs - posts which sit on the fence or are glorified summaries will get lost.

Relationship matter more: Building trust now is essential, so much is faked, hyped and untrustworthy buyers need to see you 7-11 times before they are more open to a conversation. Being known is advantage if you want a prospective client to give you their time.

LinkedIn drives your perception online: LinkedIn is one of the top cited sources in AI queries. Never before in the history of the internet has social media content had so much influence over your reputation. Your content is forming a narrative that ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude will repeat - make sure you know and talk about the things you want it to share with people researching.

I don't like all the changes that have happened to LinkedIn. I think some of them they'll probably reverse. But compare LinkedIn to any other social channel and you'll find it the easiest platform to get in front your ideal clients.

You just need to be more focused.
