Can you make money on LinkedIn by posting?

The simple answer is yes - you can make money on LinkedIn by posting. But I'll break down what you need to do to make it happen.

Choose a business model

If you want to make money posting, you need to pick the business model you're going to operate. You need to think about exactly how you'll make money.

There are three main models:

  • Sponsorships: Get paid to post and promote other brands. For this to work brands want high quality attention and evidence you can drive people to take action. For example, an AI tool will want to know you have the audience they sell to and experience driving sales for brands like theirs.
  • Affiliates: Think of this as commission only sales from driving traffic / conversions. Similar to sponsorships, but it's paid on success. Many businesses offer affiliate schemes and so this is simple to get started. You again need an audience and the ability to drive action.
  • Sell your own offers: Sell your own service or product. This is what the majority of businesses do on LinkedIn. They promote their own services. This works much better if you sell high value in low volume as it's easier to make money.

The first two models often require the ability to get higher traffic so it's often only viable for someone to do this if they get large volumes of traffic or high quality niche traffic. In times gone by brands would partner with people with huge audiences. Now they look for people with the audience they want and are far more picky about who they work with, especially with sponsorships.

How do you create posts that make money on Linkedin?

You need to create a funnel with your content, this means owning an audience a small number of topics and then create your content funnel.

There three types of content you need to create.

  1. Top of funnel content: This content is easy to engage with, bring in new audiences and is instantly relatable. Often this content is more broad but still tied to the core topics.
  2. Middle of funnel content: More helpful content that gives actionable advice, insights and helps the audience practically. This helps build trust, confidence and helps the audience see what's possible.
  3. Bottom of funnel content: This content agitates pain points and creates internal urgency so people click, inbound message or sign up.

You need to ready for the long game

Like most social media channels, LinkedIn used to be easy to get traffic. Today, LinkedIn is more competitive and so, you'll need to invest time in building an audience and building awareness of who you are.

Don't be fooled by the people saying they added 50k followers in 90-days, often these people participate in engagement pods and reciprocal engagement tactics. This can grow your audience, but often there is no loyalty or genuine interest, if you stop engaging, it all evapourates.

That can get you growth quickly, but it's hamster wheel you can never step off.

It may take you 3-6 months to learn what works and then another six months to get consistent levels of engagement and growth. It's much better to go slower and build loyalty than try to play games to grow faster - it always comes back to bite you.

Can it work for me?

Yes, it can, but think of it like a business. You can to commit to learning what the market enjoys, likes consuming and align with that. It's a commitment and it can be incredibly rewarding for those who see the course. My only recommendation is that you need to make the serious commitment first, not just fall in love with the idea.

I recommend selling your own high ticket offers, it's much easier to get into profit. Think about it, selling a $10k offer, means a couple of clients can get you to $20k a month - that isn't hard if your business model and focus is clear. You can also succeed with a smaller more niche audience which can make it all more sustainable if the LinkedIn algorithm changes.

There will be setbacks, ups and downs and times when you want to quit. The people who push through this make money posting on LinkedIn.

Good luck.
