A dose of reality, handling the truth.
Truth can be a funny thing. We all value you it, but sometimes avoid it like the plague. When I work with my clients, we often have an initial battle with truth - seeing your ideal clients world through their eyes, seeing things how they see it, not as we want, think or it ought to be.
Life is like that too. To succeed, to get the best of of life, you have to operate from truth, what is real, what is imagined and what is idealised - how we think it should be.
I sometimes find myself getting angry as I scroll my LinkedIn feed. I look at posts from influencers with clearly manufactured engagement or posts with terrible, naive advice blowing up - I get angry because they should not blow up, it should not be this way. But it is. The reality is on social media engagement begets engagement - and we love simple answers to complex problems.
The truth is more painful, because that means experience, expertise is often overlooked if it isn't packaged into sexy little parcels delivered dripped in a sweet flavoring.
I remember years ago, a friend of mine got into a spot of bother, totally of his own making. He denied any involvement. His girlfriend at the time was in total denial it happened and it was convenient for her to believe him - because it was easier to believe him than face what the truth meant for her.
We can blame algorithms, we can express anger at how our ideal clients should behave, what they should be thinking - but to prosper and achieve success - you have to deal with reality.
